CAUSES OF DEPRESSION…
“Depression is like a tree that has many roots…”
"There is never any logical reason for despair..."
Unfortunately, it is not fully
known what exactly causes clinical depression. Although, medical
research has contributed much to our understanding of depression, yet the
exact cause of depression remains unclear.
Ø Scientists
do not know the exact mechanism that triggers depressive illness.
Ø It
is a complex disease that can occur as a result of a
multitude of factors.
Ø
There is no
single cause for depression.
For some people, a combination of many
factors may be causing clinical depression. For others, a single factor may
be triggering the illness.
Depression often is
related
to the following:
Ø
Imbalance of brain chemicals called neurotransmitters:
Research indicates that brain biochemistry
is a significant factor in depressive disorders.
-
For example, individuals with major
depressive illness typically have too little or too much of
certain brain chemicals, called neurotransmitters.
-
Neurotransmitters are chemicals that carry
signals from one part of the brain to the next.
-
There are many neurotransmitters, serving
different purposes.
-
Changes in these brain chemicals may cause
or contribute to clinical depression.
